How to choose the right apron to get kids cooking.

There is no doubt that cooking is a fun activity for kids – at home or at school. Whether they are helping out with the family meal or embarking on a bigger baking project. If kids have their own cooking aprons they will really look and feel the part. Their clothes will be kept clean and they will be following the basic rules of kitchen hygiene. So how do you go about selecting the right apron for your kids? At Cookify we have over seven years of experience of kitting out junior master chefs. The Right Size

We cannot emphasise enough how important it is to select a kids cooking apron in the right size for your child. Children come in all different shapes and sizes, and more importantly – they grow! One size certainly does not fit all! Some apron manufacturers offer an age range guide, but to ensure that you choose an apron with the best fit you should measure child and check carefully against the measurements of the apron. All of our own brand Cookify aprons are available in a variety sizes from 3-5 years for toddlers up to teens and small adult sizes.

This will allow you to assess the size and the shape of the apron for your child, so when it is delivered they will be ready to put in on and get cooking straight away!

The Right Design Kids aprons come in a vast array of colours, designs and prints so making a choice can be a challenge. The child’s age is a big factor here. Younger children may prefer an apron of their favourite character from a TV show or a book. The cast in our character apron range is constantly changing, but Thomas The Tank and the Gruffalo aprons have always been bestsellers. Aprons with animals and dinosaurs are always popular, as are aprons with a pretty princess of fairy theme.

For older children classic apron designs such as butcher’s stripe or traditional chef checks may appeal. They are available in a variety of colours, such as blue, black, red and green. Many aprons come with matching chef hats or cooking skull caps too, so they can be fully cooking ready.

Durable and Washable Materials

There’s no getting away from the fact that kids cooking aprons are going to get messy! As they protect the clothes beneath aprons will have to deal with spillages, smudges and more.

At Cookify we feel that you have 2 options. The first is a PVC wipe-clean apron. The plasticised coating means that any spills can be simply wiped away with a damp cloth or sponge. PVC aprons are understandably popular with schools, nurseries and cooking clubs, where children share aprons. They are also a practical solution for cooking with kids at home. It’s handy to have a couple of PVC aprons hanging in easy reach on the kitchen door. Option number two is a machine washable cotton or poly cotton apron.

Aprons need to made of strong stuff – durable and washable at 40 degrees. In our experience it is best to tackle stains as quickly as possible, popping the apron into the washing machine at the earliest opportunity. But the most important thing is to remember to have fun cooking with the kids and bake some yummy food for everyone to share.
